1st Annual Sandlot Wood Bat Tourney

The first ever Michael McMahon wood bat tournament will be held on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th at Weasel Field. The tournament is in remembrance of Michael McMahon who was a regular at good 'ole Weasel Field. McMahon was killed in a car accident in February of 2008 and there is no one else who would want the Weasels to be playing on July 4th other than Michael. McMahon's passion for baseball and love of the game was one of the reasons Weasel Field switched to wood bats to make the game more pure. 

The first annual McMahon tournament will feature a nine team tournament with three pools and three teams. Each team is gaurenteed 2 games. There is no age requirement. You must have at least six players to start a team.

Tournament Fee:$25 a team for a two-game guarantee

Pool A: Rage, Ab Nation, and Big Sticks

Pool B: Mud Dogs, Alveys All-Stars, and OWR

Pool C: Weasels, Southside Pride, and Redhawks

Jeff Dodd Tosses NO-Hitter

Jeff Dodd became the first player in franchise history to throw a shutout and no hitter for the Naturals. Dodd pitched five solid innings and recorded eight strike outs on the day. The Naturals also had help from rookie Shaan Yusuf who homered in his debut at Weasel Field. The Naturals earned their first sweep of the season and improved to 3-5 on the year. The Naturals are fighting for a playoff spot and currently are sitting in 4th place.

 Perfect Game

Mike Schepers became the first pitcher in Weasel Field history to pitch a perfect game on Sunday May 31 against the Mud Dogs. At Weasel Field games are only 5 innings. Schepers was flawless going the distance and striking out nine out of the ten batters he faced. The only Mud Dog batter to make contact hit a towering fly ball to the left field foul line and was robbed by Kenny Bollwerk who made a diving catch to preserve the perfect game.

AB Nation vs Weasels

The Weasels and AB Nation will meet for the 6th time this Sunday in a possible World Series preview. The Weasels swept AB Nation last year, but AB Nation got the last laugh, winning in extra innings 10-9 in the World Series. This year, AB Nation swept the Weasels in two games. AB Nation currently is the only team ever to have a winning record against the Weasels as they are 3-2. AB Nation had bad news this week as SP Ryne Moleski was placed on the 60 Day Disabled List undergoing season ending shoulder surgery.

WEASEL TURNS TO WOOD FOR '09 SEASON

Weasel Field will turn to wood bats starting on May 17th for all Sunday league games.If you have extra wood bats or know someone who would like to make a donation we will take all we can get! Weasel Field usually supplies all equipment, but since all we have are metal bats, we will not be able to supply teams with wood bats. That is all you have to bring is your own bat.
